I was excited when I heard about the Designer Pattern Swap! I mean, I love all of my Mandy K Designs patterns…but sometimes it is nice to change things up a bit and sew without having to analyze every little detail!
I volunteered to either sew up a girls or a woman’s pattern, and was paired up with Jennifer from Stitch Upon a Time. Then I was forced to decide if I wanted to sew something for my daughter or something for myself.
Most of you probably don’t know much about me personally…but I am over weight. I also had VSG surgery for weight loss in April 2015. So far I am down almost 70 pounds, and I thought I would take a shot at making something for myself. I have tried several patterns over the past couple of years, and all of them were utter failures. I hated the way I looked in them and would never dare show a photo!
I decided to make the Spoxxy Top. Well, let me tell you…even without the weight loss, I think this top would still look good!
Because of my size measurements, I decided to mesh two sizes together. I went with a size Large for the chest and length, and size X-Large for the hips (I’m still a little self conscious about my hips). But in all honesty, I will make a straight Large or even Medium next time!
The pattern printed out perfectly. You can print just the size you need, or if you need to mash sizes a nested size version is also available with the layer option too! No need to waste any paper with this pattern!
The instructions state it will take you about an hour from start to finish, and I agree with that. There are only 3 pieces to cut out, plus the binding and only 5 seams to sew up. I’m still a little slow with binding, so that took up the most time for me. If you use a serger or coverstitch on this, you could be done in 30 minutes or less.
Here is what I love the most about this top….the BACK!
I’m standing a little crooked, but you get the idea! The fit is relaxed and will cover up all those imperfections (that usually only we can see in ourselves). I love that the cut is long and comes down over the hips.
If you’ve been on the fence about this pattern, or making yourself some work out gear, I encourage you to give this one a try. You can get it on sale for only $4.50 at SUAT!!
Make sure to enter the contest to win some great patterns from all the designers in the swap!
